Co-Motion Java Tandem
Co-Motion Cycles builds all of their frames in Eugene Oregon, and have amassed 30 years of tandem building experience. Although they have a good number and variety of single-rider bikes, it is their tandems that they have become the most renowned for.
Building tandems requires a lot of specific parts that differ from those used on single bikes. Co-Motion Cycles have taken on manufacturing their own forks, wheel dropouts, and cranksets in order to improve the parts that are available for their bikes. This self-reliance gives Co-Motion the ability to adapt to new technologies as they appear in the tandem market, such as electronic shifting, disc brakes, and wider tires.
One of teir most versatile tandems is the Co-Motion Java. It is built with 700c size wheels, which are the largest diameter wheels in common use. On these large wheels, they fit equally large tires. Java tandems come with 2.0” low-tread tires, but are able to fit from 1.5” road tires up to 2.5” MTB knobbies. This wide range of tire compatibility is where the versatility lies; the same bike can do a century ride on its road tires, and still handle the roughest gravel paths on its off-road tires.
In addition to tweaking the tire size, you can also order a Co-Motion Java with either a mountain-bike style flat bar, or a road-bike style drop bar. This allows you to set up your own Java for either rough-terrain maneuverability or long-ride comfort.
These options, along with Co-Motion Cycles’ more than 40 paint colors, probably ensures that no one has ever ordered a Co-Motion Java tandem the same as yours!
